In Victorian times fashionable women’s clothes were much more ornate and achieving the right look depended on a precise fit. Wealthy women would have couture outfits made for them, others would make their own clothes. Ready-to-wear clothes were not available until the early 20th century and with this trend came the issue of fit.

For although ready-to-wear clothes have made fashion available to a larger audience, many women struggle to find clothes that fit. This is because most of us are not the same standard size around the bust and hips. This has resulted in the rise in popularity of separates.

It is not hard to come up with a list of reasons why you should chose separates. However an over riding factor is that a couture skirt or jacket will fit you like a glove, be more flattering and make you feel more confident.
