My gorgeous new mother of the bride collection

I always look forward to August… It’s a time when most of the season’s events have past and my summer brides and mum’s have had their weddings, so I use this time to step back and create a new collection for the Autumn National Wedding Show at Olympia.

In the world of fashion, many collections are designed a year ahead. But as an independent couture designer, I prefer to add a few new pieces throughout the year to keep my collection exciting and fresh. My clients’ events keep me busy all through the seasons and I might be commissioned two weeks before a special occasion or two years ahead.

Not being tied to the fashion calendar gives me far more freedom – and a lot less pressure to come up with new ideas to a timetable.

Over the last year, I have developed a bridal collection that features my handmade silk flowers in pastel shades which I use to embellish my wedding dresses.

These have been greatly admired by many of my clients who are not getting married but love the idea of having my appliqué work on their outfit. Feedback from clients always influences my designs, so I am making flowers in an array of colours to soften my tailored dresses – perfect for mother of the bride and mother of the groom as it is a way of adding colours from the wedding theme in a subtle way.

Outfits in duck egg blue silk linen are probably the most popular of my collection and so always feature.

The shade looks classic, the fabric tailors well and doesn’t crease and I have never come across another fabric and colour that suits almost every colouring and age group.

However, this season I am adding a new dress shape with elbow length sleeves, with softly tailored shoulders and a corsage of handmade flowers and leaves.

There are so many one venue weddings that these dresses will look smart and elegant without a jacket or coat.

For autumn/winter events, I am using a black and white silk/cotton tweed fabric set off with red appliqué work for a touch of drama.

For those clients who like a softer floaty style dress, I have found some beautiful black lace embroidered with red roses and green foliage that can be lined with nude, red or black to create three very different looks.

There will also be a floaty, unlined coat available that can be worn over a plain coloured shift dress.

My floaty coats have been in demand this summer with so many of my mother of bride and mother of groom clients.

Made from gorgeous patterned chiffon these floaty coats dress up an outfit but allow you to keep cool at the same time.

I will have two styles in the collection that can be customised in a range of colours and prints to complete your look.

And even if the heat of this summer is not repeated next year these will work well for one venue weddings where a coat or jacket would look a little out of place.

As all my clients know my collection is just the starting point for an outfit that I will create especially for you.
