A suit is the perfect way to dress for a formal occasion be it an important business meeting or interview or as mother of the bride or mother of the groom. The best thing about a suit is that you can wear it for so many occasions. If you have the budget, a couture suit made especially for you is a luxury worth the money as you can be sure of a cut and fit that flatters your figure.

Sue contacted me when she found out she was on the Queens Honours List for an MBE. Everyone was excitedly asking Sue what she would be wearing to this once in a lifetime occasion. Sue wanted to be sure she looked her best for the photos and the official video. I made her a silk linen tweed dress and matching jacket in a subtle mix of cream and heather giving her a tailored outfit that was very feminine. I finished her outfit with a small hat decorated with handmade roses in a cage of silk bands. Her hat was a talking point and Sue felt confident on her big day.

A suit is a must have if you work in the corporate world. When Hannah finished her studies, her step mother brought her to see me as she wanted her to have a couture ensemble of a dress, skirt and jacket. The thinking was that she could wear the navy suit for a first interview and team the jacket with the dress for a slightly more relaxed look if she was called back for a second interview. Knowing you look the part allows you to focus on giving of your best during interviews. I am pleased to say Hannah has successfully launched herself into work in her chosen field. Once you have a beautifully fitting suit in your wardrobe it is always going to be useful.

If you are mother of the bride then you set the dress code and in your role a suit is perfect. But as a guest you can be left feeling out of place if you choose a suit and everyone else is wearing pretty dresses. If you are unsure, do your research and check the dress code. Sometimes a suit would be too formal if the wedding is being held in a country garden or on a beach. This could also apply to a one venue wedding. These are a bit more tricky to get right because the bride may want to have some outdoor formal group photos where a jacket would be appropriate.

Deborah was looking forward to a family wedding and wanted a special outfit to wear. Her petite figure made it hard for her to find a jacket and dress that would flatter. She asked if I could make her a suit from some beautiful wool tweed in shades of pink she had been given. I am happy to make an outfit using a client’s fabric and created Deborah a sophisticated wedding look that she loved.
