How can a stylist/personal shopper help

Recently I have been invited to join the Lifestyler platform as a stylist/personal shopper. I have spent 21 years advising my clients on what colours, shapes, styles suit them and what will fulfil their requirements – wedding, race day, work suit… So I felt qualified to take up this post.

Yes, I have a degree in art and design, but is that what is needed to make someone a good stylist? I believe being able to talk to people, help them feel good about themselves and understand the colours and shapes that work for them is what is important.

As a couturier I have been designing and making outfits for every age, shape and size of woman for many years. There is no greater learning curve to understanding how women feel about themselves and how they would like to be seen.

So why use a stylist/personal shopper  – a good stylist ultimately will save you money by making sure you put your exciting wardrobe to good use – known as a wardrobe detox.  Then  help you fill the gaps with the right pieces. So no more impulse shopping for clothes that stay at the back of the wardrobe unworn.

When I look through a wardrobe I often find garments that with a little tweaking could be functional once again, it could be removing or adding shoulder pads, changing buttons or reshaping. If you have good quality clothes this is a worthwhile thing to consider.

There are no universally recognised credentials for stylists so it is important to do your research and preferably use someone who has been recommended. Since personal shoppers thrive off of referrals and repeat clients it’s in their best interest to keep you happy.
