Eye catching ivory wedding dresses with a touch of colour

Many brides know before starting their search for a dress whether they are looking for a white, ivory or a coloured wedding dress but they may not have thought about accents of colour. Yet some of the most exciting wedding dresses I have designed and made have included touches of colour – yet brides often don’t consider this option when they start looking.

Many of the wedding dresses in my collection feature a touch of colour: my camellia wedding dress is embellished with cascading pink flowers, others include sashes appliquéd with a cluster of pastel handmade flowers with beaded centers. Before bride to be Jessica came to see me she had already decided she would like lotus flowers and green vines to feature on her wedding dress for her winter forest wedding. The starting point for her dress was a nude tulle sheath dress with a puddle train. Ivory guipure lace was mounted onto the tulle.

I made large ivory silk lotus flowers and tinted them with a blush wash, these were then sewn onto the dress with pearls at the centres to hold them in place. I then hand cut and painted the green vines that twisted around the nude tulle sleeves and draped around the low back and bodice. Smaller ivory flowers of silk thread added to the texture.

For the church ceremony I made an ivory veil and decorated it with matching flowers and vines. Jessica removed this after the service replacing it with an ivory silk velvet hooded cape entwined with lotus flowers and vines to keep her warm for the forest walk from the church to the wedding reception.

Amy wearing Elizabeth Bessant couture blush and ivory appliqued wedding dress with detachable overskirt and matching cathedral veil

One of the dresses I am most proud of is the dress I designed and made for Amy in blush pink silk overlaid with ivory lace.

The dress and overskirt were heavily embellished with a range of ivory silk flowers in different tones, textures and sizes.

These were attached with blush pearls and Swarovski crystals.

An ivory cathedral veil with matching flower appliqué gave the wedding dress a traditional touch.

Amy’s dress was a tour de force and took hundreds of hours of handwork to complete – it remains one of my most complimented pieces of design and workmanship.

If you have already bought your wedding dress and would like to add a touch of colour I am happy to do this for you. There are different ways you can introduce colour: beadwork, a sash, a cluster of my handmade flowers or an embroidered butterfly. Customising your wedding dress is a way to add a personal touch and will add that extra wow factor.
