Capes and coats for winter events

It is always tricky planning what to wear for winter events, as the cold weather makes coordinating your outfit and staying warm rather challenging. Weddings are particularly tricky as photographers always want to take the bride and groom and their guests outside for photos. Usually the grounds are more interesting as a backdrop and there is more room for group photographs.

For brides, a cape with a fur-trimmed hood adds a gorgeously romantic touch while a faux fur shoulder wrap adds glamour.

Mother of the bride or mother of the groom should think carefully. You don’t want to be shivering in the photos so a dress coat is a stylish addiction to your outfit as well as a welcome layer of warmth.

A dress coat can be collarless with a feature necklace over the top that will complement your outfit when you remove the coat.

A separate faux fur collar is also a classic winter look – real fur is controversial so best avoided at a wedding.

Or choose a coat with bracelet length sleeves and long gloves, evoking Audrey Hepburn – how stylish would that be…

If you are careful to choose the right colour and fabric, your coat can take you to other events, for example, the Cheltenham Festival in March especially if you are going to Ladies Day.

A really lovely coat is always nice for a trip to the theatre or a special restaurant so a great investment.
