Video your wedding dress to relive the moment again and again

Capturing your wedding day and all those special moments is a challenge. Photos provide a record of your special day but are just glimpses back in time – the moment before and the moment after are lost. Film captures movement and sound: the emotion of your first kiss as newly weds; your first dance in your beautiful wedding dress; and your mum’s tears.

When I design a wedding dress, I take into consideration how my bride wants her dress to move and perform when sketching out a design. Two of my brides, Amy and Laura, both wanted their wedding dresses to look formal throughout the day but transform into something more casual for the evening party. I solved this challenge with removable overskirts.

On the day, Amy loved her overskirt so much that she continued wearing it into the evening. With her hands in the side pockets she created movement and attitude on the dance floor – very Amy. Her wedding in Barcelona was captured by a videographer: the bridesmaids delight as they got ready; her nervous groom waiting for his bride; and the excitement of her guests. The video also showed off Amy’s wedding dress which was blush pink, overlaid with ivory lace mounted on ivory tulle. Hundreds of hours of hand-work went in to creating her unique wedding dress appliquéd with hand cut flowers, leaves and silk feathers sewn in place with pearls and crystals. Film captured her dress off from every angle as she moved through the day in a way that photos never could.

Another of my lovely brides, Laura, had two videos shot of her wedding day. The first was to show off the wedding dress, overskirt and veil that I created for her.

A choreographed film of Laura walking, dancing, spinning and laughing in her wedding dress captured her happiness and showed just how much she loved wearing her dream dress. The float of the tulle layer with hand cut flowers appearing to float around her ankles; the overskirt that was structured like wings of a white swan; and the diaphanous veil floating around her and creating an air of mystery. Bride and model for the day, I can’t thank Laura enough for bringing the wedding dress to life on film – as a designer it is lovely to see my creation showcased in this way. The second video of Laura’s wedding was a beautiful record of a lovely family day in the sunshine of Telsiai, Lithuania, the grooms home town with family and friends… equally as special but for different reasons.

If you can afford to capture your special day in film it is such a lovely thing to do. Memories are made of confetti rose petals floating over your heads and champagne corks popping – and once captured on film can be relived again and again.
