Couture wedding dresses that won’t break the bank
Many brides I meet want a beautiful dress but not layers of silk, a dramatic train and a veil. Instead their dream dress is no fuss, yet stunning. This season I have included some simple, elegant wedding dresses in my collection that start at £1,200 giving more brides the chance to experience couture at an affordable price.
Usually brides who want a simpler gown are planning a less formal wedding that is intimate and fun, and accordingly your dress should reflect this. But dresses for an informal wedding can be every bit as special and style should not be sacrificed.
Soft silhouettes, flowing A-lines, sheaths or mermaid, are all perfect for a casual wedding. Light weight silks, lace, chiffons, organza and tulle all work well. And there are so many options for hem lengths – don’t be scared off by a shorter hem when you say no to a formal wedding gown you have the freedom to choose whatever style you want.
When Clare came to see me to have her wedding dress made she knew she wanted a ballerina length 50’s style dress for her wedding that was held in a barn. She had a treasured collection of Royal Doulton china flower brooches and earrings and unusually she asked me to incorporate these into her look.
I made a wide sash to show off her small waist and clustered the china flowers at the centre front. She felt very special in the dress which was perfect for the Rock ‘n’ Roll first dance.
Another bride who wanted to keep it casual was Sarah who was holding her wedding in the Italian sunshine. It was important for Sarah to be comfortable but elegant for her outdoor wedding.
I made her an ivory silk crepe, Grecian-style dress with a cowl back. The shoulders and belt were decorated with Deco style beading that included vintage pearls and crystal. She looked radiantly stunning on the arm of her groom.
