Winter forest wedding inspires my new collection

My new wedding dress collection was launched at the National Wedding Show, Olympia last weekend to an audience of brides all eagerly looking for something different for their special day.

Gorgeously romantic, my wedding dresses are made from soft draping fabrics – silk velvet, chiffon, crepe and lace, some with cowl backs. Handmade flowers in soft shades of ivory and rose, and hand painted vines, that are all painstakingly made in my studio, drape over shoulders and lay along trains. Sashes and belts decorated with flowers and pearls complete the look and cinch in waists.

All my dresses are individually made and customised for each bride – so you can choose your favourite flowers and fabrics. The dresses are soft and gorgeously easy to wear and move in – and of course unique.

My inspiration for this collection comes from the recent trend for autumn/winter weddings in this country. Country houses are taking over from barns as preferred venues – far warmer and much more appropriate for a winter wedding. Forest locations mean houses and churches decorated with ivy, vines and evergreen foliage. Bouquets are natural, trailing with vines, while hair is also intertwined with vines and delicate flowers. This all sounds bohemian but it is more authentic – no rustic signs and driftwood, here nature takes centre stage.

One of my brides Jessica chose a winter forest wedding in Gloucestershire. She wanted an outfit that would echo the beauty of the surrounding countryside and her love of lotus flowers and vines.

The challenge was not only to make the outfit of her dreams, but also to keep her elegantly warm for a walk through the forest from the church to the country house reception.

I took her ideas and created a dress made from nude tulle with lace over the bodice and fading down the skirt.

The illusion décolletage and sleeves were appliquéd with handmade lotus flowers painted with a hint of blush entwined with deepest green vines.

For the forest walk, I made Jessica an ivory silk velvet cape with lotus flowers and vines winding around the hood and draping over the shoulders. A long veil edged with flowers and vines completed her look when she walked down the aisle and her red hair was pinned up with a crown of real flowers.  Her ivory lace boots tied with wide blush ribbon were replaced with little white wellies to cope with the forest mud.

Bridesmaids were kept busy holding up the dress and veil but eventually, the groom decided it was time to carry his bride! The ultimate romantic gesture…
